The Ministry of the Interior and the Council of Indigenous Peoples held the 2025 Typhoon Preparedness Press Conference (16th) for the first time. The event was co-hosted by Minister Liu Shi-fang of the Ministry of the Interior and Chairperson of the Council of Indigenous Peoples Zeng Zhi-yong (Ljaucu Zingrur) in cooperation with the Office of Disaster Management, Executive Yuan, the National Science and Technology Council, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Ministry of Agriculture to help strengthen the disaster prevention resilience of indigenous tribes. Chairperson Tseng hoped that through the collaboration of government ministries, the disaster prevention and coping abilities of indigenous tribes will continue to improve. He also expressed the utmost respect to partners who have promoted and executed disaster prevention work in indigenous townships on behalf of indigenous tribes.

Chairperson Zeng stated that many indigenous tribes are located in remote areas, which are likely to become isolated islands. Due to the intensification of extreme climate and the diversification of disaster types, indigenous tribes are faced with more and more severe challenges. To strengthen disaster prevention and preparation work, enhance risk assessments and the decision-making abilities of local governments, reduce the gap in disaster information delivery, and promote autonomous disaster prevention in indigenous tribes, the Council of Indigenous Peoples held the Disaster Prevention Training for Directors and Chief Officers of Taiwan Indigenous Peoples on May 12, 2025. Trainees included the mayors of indigenous townships (towns, cities, districts) and the Chief Officers of county or city government units in charge of indigenous peoples' matters. The Council of Indigenous Peoples also established a Disaster Notification and Contact Group of Indigenous Townships and a Decision Support Assistance Platform for Indigenous Tribes while continuing to promote the Livable Indigenous Village Construction Project to strengthen indigenous tribes' safety and disaster prevention competency.

Chairperson Zeng also called for all levels of government agencies to strengthen disaster prevention and preparation work for indigenous tribes in locations that are likely to become isolated islands when the flood season starts. The Council of Indigenous Peoples will continue to deepen its cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and other relevant ministries and agencies in the future to promote the goal of strengthening disaster prevention and management abilities of indigenous tribes.
