The groundbreaking ceremony for the Meishan Suspension Bridge Post-Disaster Recovery and Reconstruction Project in Meishan Community, Taoyuan District, Kaohsiung City, was held today (May 22). Deputy Minister Qucung Qalavangan of the Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP) attended the event. Once implemented, the project will provide residents of Meishan Community with a safe and reliable transportation route, improving local mobility and the transportation of agricultural products.

Deputy Minister Qucung Qalavangan noted that the Meishan Suspension Bridge has long served as an important transportation route connecting the workplaces and residential areas of the local community. The project received planning and design funding support from the CIP in August 2024. However, Typhoon Danas in July 2025 caused wear-and-tear and damage to bridge components, affecting the structural safety of the bridge. To ensure the daily mobility and safety of local residents, the CIP allocated NT$43.8 million in November 2025 to support the reconstruction project. Through bridge reconstruction and improvements to related facilities, the project will enhance road safety, allowing residents to travel to work, school, and medical appointments with greater peace of mind by reducing the inconvenience of transportation disruptions.

Deputy Minister Qucung Qalavangan stated that the project was awarded in March 2026. He commended the Kaohsiung City Government for actively advancing the project and expressed hope that construction would be completed on schedule and to a high standard. In addition to providing a safer transportation environment for the local community, the project will facilitate the distribution of local agricultural products such as plums, contributing to the development of local industries.
