To cultivate more outstanding indigenous civil servants who will work on indigenous peoples’ affairs, alongside possessing professional qualities, the Council of Indigenous Peoples held the opening ceremony for the “2024 Indigenous Peoples Policy Intensive Practical Training Session for the Special Civil Service Examination for Indigenous Peoples Qualifiers” today (May 5).
The opening ceremony was presided over by Deputy Chairperson Calivat·Gadu (Zhong Xing-hua). For the first time, Xu Shu-xiang, the Vice President of the Examination Yuan, as well as Iwan Nawi and Wang Xiu-hong, the two Commissioners, were invited to attend the ceremony. It is hoped that these indigenous civil servants will excel and contribute to promoting indigenous peoples’ policies and enhancing the welfare of ethnic groups.
The Special Civil Service Examination for Indigenous Peoples has been held 43 times since its inception in 1956, admitting more than 5,000 individuals. The students attending today’s session not only bear significant responsibilities to advance policies for various indigenous groups, but they also represent a new force to safeguard the rights and interests of indigenous peoples, along with their cultural heritage. The Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Zhong, encouraged the students to study diligently and expand their expertise during this training period. In the future, as they undertake their work, they will be equipped to promote policy innovation from an ethnic perspective, thereby becoming a strong force for ethnic integration and social progress.
At the opening ceremony, the Vice President of the Examination Yuan, Mr. Xu, presented each student with a special gift on behalf of the Examination Yuan: a pen symbolizing knowledge and responsibility. He expressed his hope that all students would use this pen to create a new chapter in the development of ethnic groups moving forward. Subsequently, officials engaged in an exchange forum with the students. The discussion was spirited, with students demonstrating their enthusiasm and positivity.
The Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Zhong, stated that the Council of Indigenous Peoples will continue to collaborate closely with the Examination Yuan and the Ministry of Examination to establish a comprehensive examination and training mechanism for indigenous peoples, ensuring that more outstanding indigenous youth can join the public service system to collectively work towards the sustainable development of ethnic communities, social diversity, and shared prosperity.
