Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP) Minister Ljaucu·Zingrur visited Guangfu Township, Hualien County, today (September 28) to assess the impact of the barrier lake disaster, inspect emergency shelters, and review the distribution of relief supplies. During his visit, he conveyed the government's care and support for affected indigenous residents.

Accompanied by Hualien Indigenous Peoples Department Director Ma, Minister Ljaucu·Zingrur visited two shelters at Matthew Saddle Church (Fata'an Kiwkay) and Dajin Elementary School to check on accommodation arrangements for evacuees. He expressed sympathy to the displaced residents and discussed their post-disaster needs. During his conversation with the church pastor and elders, he heard that the large number of evacuees had created staffing shortages. Minister Ljaucu·Zingrur immediately pledged to request personnel support from the county government and social workers, and coordinated to transfer evacuees to lodging facilities arranged by the Hualien Hotel Association so more comfortable accommodation could be provided and the burden on the church reduced. In the afternoon, the minister visited Jifeng Nursing Center, where 24 disabled senior citizens had been relocated from Guangfu Long-Term Care Center. He expressed the government's concern and instructed relevant agencies to continue providing medical and daily care support.

Minister Ljaucu·Zingrur emphasized that post-disaster recovery in Hualien requires joint efforts from the central and local governments as well as community cooperation. He noted that the Executive Yuan's Forward Coordination Office of the Central Emergency Operations Center is continuing to monitor the situation in real time—tracking disaster impact, evacuation, and shelter operations—and coordinating resources for rapid response. Central ministries will also fully support local governments in reconstruction and relief work to ensure timely and effective assistance for affected indigenous residents.

In addition, to ensure that social welfare resources reach affected families promptly, the CIP is working with the Hualien County Government to mobilize social workers from Indigenous Family Service Centers, caregivers from Cultural Health Stations, and employment service officers to assist with shelter management, family care, and post-disaster recovery. The CIP also called on all citizens to stand in solidarity—to help one another, share responsibility, and overcome the challenges ahead as one island community.
