In celebration of International Mother Language Day on February 21, the Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP) and the Indigenous Languages Research and Development Foundation jointly hosted the 2026 International Mother Language Day – Indigenous Languages Concert on February 28 at the Taipei Children’s Amusement Park. The event brought together indigenous-language singer-songwriters from different generations—including Kitahara Lynx, Suming Rupi, Abus Tanapima, and Usay Kawlu—who shared the vitality of language and culture through music.
Held at a family-friendly venue, the concert opened with a performance by the Sing Jhong Elementary School Choir from Taoyuan District, Kaohsiung City, followed by performances from artists of different generations. Together, they showcased the intergenerational transmission of indigenous languages and culture through song. In addition to stage performances, the event featured interactive language experience booths organized by eight indigenous language immersion preschools from across Taiwan, attracting many families who participated through practical activities and games.
The CIP noted that the lively amusement park setting drew thousands of families, who paused to listen, experience, and learn about indigenous languages and cultures. By bringing indigenous languages into everyday spaces, the event allowed families to naturally engage with the diversity of Taiwan’s peoples and voices while enjoying a day of fun.
