Today, March 24, the Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP) held a flag presentation ceremony for the “2024 Hawaii Culture and Activities for Indigenous Students of College and University.” CIP Minister Ljaucu·Zingrur personally presented the flag, encouraging indigenous students to travel to Hawaii to showcase their talents, promote indigenous cultures, and engage in meaningful exchanges with international indigenous communities.

Minister Ljaucu·Zingrur stated that from March 30 to April 6, the CIP will lead a delegation of indigenous students from universities and colleges across Taiwan on an eight-day exchange trip to Hawaii, USA. Out of 111 applicants nationwide, 20 students were selected based on their understanding of indigenous issues, tribal and educational experiences, knowledge of relevant policies, and proficiency in indigenous languages and English.

He further emphasized that the goal of this initiative is to promote international cooperation on indigenous affairs, establish global partnerships, elevate the global presence of Taiwan's indigenous peoples, and empower indigenous youth in higher education to develop awareness of issues and skills for international engagement. The itinerary includes visits to the Hawaii State Government, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Kamehameha Schools, the University of Hawaiʻi, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and the Bishop Museum. These experiences are expected to broaden participants' global perspectives and provide valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The CIP added that, to cultivate indigenous talent for international exchange, the council organizes not only exchange programs for university and college students but also offers financial assistance for self-funded overseas study and short-term study abroad programs through the Mataisah Project. It is hoped that Taiwan’s outstanding indigenous youth will continue to carry forward their cultural heritage and shine on the international stage.
