The Council of Indigenous Peoples held the "Forum on Constructing Taiwan's Indigenous Education and Cultural Knowledge System" today, November 10, in Kaohsiung City. The event, presided over and inaugurated by Deputy Minister Calivat‧Gadu, attracted over 100 scholars, experts, and distinguished guests interested in the indigenous knowledge system.

Deputy Minister Calivat‧Gadu of the Council of Indigenous Peoples stated that in September 2020, the Executive Yuan approved the "Medium to Long-term Plan for Constructing Indigenous Education and Cultural Knowledge System." Taiwan is the first country globally to allocate national resources to construct the knowledge system of indigenous peoples. The goal is to complete the construction of the indigenous knowledge system by 2025. The visual theme for this forum is based on the wisdom of the Rukai, symbolized by the pure lily. It is anticipated that, through each knowledge-sharing banquet, the threads of knowledge exchange will gradually weave together, forming a comprehensive blueprint of knowledge systems. The emphasis on constructing a knowledge system centered on indigenous peoples must be highlighted and put into practice. To facilitate this construction, in addition to establishing the Indigenous Education and Cultural Knowledge System Project Management Center at National Dong Hwa University, the Council of Indigenous Peoples has approved the establishment of Indigenous Knowledge Research Centers for 11 indigenous tribes in 10 universities. The aim is to complete the establishment of knowledge research centers for 16 tribes by the end of this year. This collaborative effort is anticipated to seamlessly integrate indigenous knowledge into school curricula, assist teachers and students in gaining insights into indigenous education and diverse cultural knowledge, and enhance the nationwide promotion of indigenous education.

Deputy Minister Calivat‧Gadu further noted that the forum, organized in collaboration with the Knowledge System Project Management Center of National Dong Hwa University and the Drekai Knowledge Research Center of National Sun Yat-sen University, continues the theme of "P’etxkca ho Psoemo’a(Tsou): the Forum on Constructing and Developing Taiwan's Indigenous Knowledge System Classification Framework". This theme was initially held on March 25, 2023, during an event where Member of the Control Yuan Pu Chung-Cheng delivered a keynote speech. The Drekai, Atayal, Puyuma, and Saaroa Knowledge Research Centers presented the outcome of their knowledge system classification frameworks to promote comprehension of the core purposes and values outlined in the Council of Indigenous Peoples's "Medium to Long-term Plan for Constructing Indigenous Education and Cultural Knowledge System." Furthermore, the forum seamlessly integrated Rukai traditional cuisine to complement its theme, showcasing the outcomes of mutual learning between indigenous groups and the land. Each dish, infused with the wisdom of indigenous cuisine and agricultural cultural knowledge, brings forth the essence of historical sedimentation to tantalize the taste buds of every guest. This serves as a medium to convey the rich cultural content of indigenous peoples.
