Since 2018, the Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP) has been implementing the Innovation Research Program to encourage indigenous enterprises to develop consumer-driven innovation strategies. After a rigorous selection process, including eligibility review, document screening, and final presentations, five companies have been awarded a total of NT$6,233,900 in funding for 2025. Their projects span a diverse range of industry-enhancing innovations, including the sustainable mass production of Taiwan's native shrimp species, the application of indigenous wild plant extracts in the haircare industry, the revitalization of indigenous villages through interactive escape-room-style games, the innovative research and development of traditional food products, and the integration of indigenous culture into educational board games. These projects highlight how indigenous businesses are continuously evolving innovative business models to adapt to market and environmental changes.

The CIP stated that the program not only fosters talent development and enhances research capabilities but has also supported 108 indigenous companies across 96 projects to date. By continuing to encourage indigenous companies to optimize processes, expand markets, develop new products, and create innovative business models, this initiative helps them navigate an increasingly competitive market landscape.

Furthermore, the five selected companies for 2025 will receive not only financial support but also expert guidance from the industry, government, and academia, and research institutions. These resources aim to foster indigenous business participation in R&D, cultivate innovation talent, and accelerate technological progress. The CIP will continue leveraging economic development policies in the future to promote indigenous enterprises in manufacturing processes, products and service innovation research, and ensure that indigenous enterprises thrive in an evolving business environment.
