Today on June 1, the Council of Indigenous Peoples held an opening tea party for the Austronesian Peoples Skills Exchange Workshop Exhibition at the Taiwan Indigenous Culture Park. This exhibition showcases the superb Austronesian skills of 18 craftsmen from nine member countries and observers of the Austronesian Forum. The event marks a triumphant return, adding a brilliant highlight to Taiwan's indigenous culture.
From July 27 to August 11 last year (2023), the Council organized a two-week Austronesian Peoples Skills Exchange Workshop in Guam, inviting 18 craftsmen from nine countries to create sculptures. At Guam's invitation, these works were displayed at the Guam Museum from February 1 to April 30 this year (2024). The pieces have finally returned to Taiwan to share the Austronesian artists' creative wisdom with our local audience.
In this exhibition, each craftsman created works based on the themes "LiMA" and "Dialogue of the Home," not only showcasing their fine skills but also embodying the cultural commonalities among Austronesian peoples. Deputy Minister Calivat‧Gadu of the Council of Indigenous Peoples remarked that these works also carry the wisdom, culture, and traditions of Austronesian peoples, as well as the sentiment of "One Austronesian Family."
A special highlight of the exhibition is a large piece made by combining individual creations from all craftsmen. This piece was presented to the Governor's Office of Guam during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Austronesian Peoples Skills Exchange Workshop, commemorating the successful event. The exhibition presents this work at a 1:1 scale, allowing viewers to fully experience its creative allure. The exhibition will run for one month, and the public is invited to visit and appreciate the sculptural art of "One Austronesian Family," gaining a deeper understanding of the culture and skills of Austronesian peoples.
