Village Head, Alcalde Mayor Symposium of National Indigenous Peoples of 2017 was head on May 17 and 18 of 2017 (Thursday) in Cultural Development Center for Indigenous People of Majia Village, Pingtung County. Village head, alcaldes and mayors from 55 indigenous people villages throughout the nation participated in the activity and the theme ranged from the announcement planning, economic industry, cultural preservation and inheritance of the traditional fields to the experience sharing and viewing regarding village administrative promotion. In view that the Council of Indigenous Peoples issued and enforced [Regulations on Land or Tribal Land Allocation for Indigenous Peoples] (hereinafter referred to as Regulations) and assisted the tribes or nations in promoting traditional field planning via the public offices. The meeting majorly communicated and focused on the idea exchange and experience sharing with respect to traditional field planning of the public offices. Meanwhile, it also invited chairman of Council of Indigenous People, Icyang·Parod to jointly discuss how the central and local authorities promote the announcement planning for the traditional fields of Indigenous Peoples and put the land transformation justice into practice under the premises of respecting tribes and national subjectivity.
This meeting also specially invited chairman of Rukai people, Pao, Chi-Cheng to share the experience on traditional field planning for Rukai Peoples. He also stated at the meeting that the planning Regulations are feasible and suggested that a new way shall be led for planning Regulations to further promote the Autonomous Law, Aboriginal Land and Sea Law, etc. and gain the real rights. During the comprehensive idea exchange and extensive discussions, Wutai Township Mayor, Tu, Cheng-Chi, Chienshi and Yuntianpao Township Mayors also expressed that the planning was still a huge leap for traditional fields even though it failed to reach all the expectations. The planning will absolutely not be rejected but promoted as soon as possible.
Chairman of Council of Indigenous Peoples, Icyang·Parod demonstrated that after the issuance and implementation of planning Regulations on February 18, 2017, it planned that the Regulations could be assisted by the public offices and hoped that the connections and mutual trust bases between tribes and public offices could be reinforced via the case experience sharing of the meeting to gradually promote the planning of traditional fields as well as put the land rights and interests protection of Indigenous Peoples into practice.
