The Council of Indigenous Peoples and Taiwan Railways Administration, MOIC Jointly Initiated the First Journey of Colored Train on Indigenous Peoples Day

In commemoration of the day on August 1st, 1994 when “Gaoshan nationality” were officially named “Indigenous Peoples”, the Council of Indigenous Peoples held the “Press Conference on the First Flight of the Colored Train on Indigenous Peoples’ Day” on platform 3 of Nangang Station of Taipei Railway today (29th), announcing the official launch of Colored Train on Indigenous Peoples’ Day and the series of activities of Indigenous Peoples’ Day on August 1st.

Icyang Parod, Chairman of the Council, said that this year, in cooperation with Taiwan Railways Administration and MOIC, the Council copied the prize-winning works of 16 children in the 12th National Indigenous Children’ Painting Competition on the Taroko Express. The images signified the hardships of the indigenous movement with fairy tales, and connected the connotation of “sacrifice” and “inheritance”, thereby strengthening the concept of “August 1st - Day of Indigenous Peoples”.

Not only in the body of the car, but also in the corridor, charging area and luggage rack, there were decorations of the image of Indigenous Peoples Day. There were manuals of “The Origin and Significance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day” and QRcode for scanning and reading the information on the series of activities of Indigenous Peoples’ Day on the seat towel. It is expected that colored train of Taiwan Railway will be filled with the cultural elements of Indigenous Peoples during a 3-month period starting from July 29th all the way through October 28th, in which the colored train of Indigenous Peoples’ Day would serve as a vehicle to commemorate the process of name change for Indigenous Peoples.

The Council also announced that a series of activities on Indigenous Peoples’ Day in 2019 would be launched. Firstly, from July 23rd to August 11th, a retrospective exhibition on the 25th anniversary of name change of Indigenous Peoples was exhibited in the National Library. On August 1st, a retrospective Forum on the 25th anniversary of name change of Indigenous Peoples was held in the Grand Hotel Taipei. Then, from August 2nd to August 4th, the “2019 Taiwan PASIWALI Festival” would be held in Taitung Forest Park. Six famous singers from Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, Palau, Madagascar, Bolivia would be invited to perform at that time. Lastly, Power Station, the well-known indigenous duo would be the last performer. On August 31st and September 1st, a performance entitled “The Premier Performance of Kasavakan’s Fantastic Journey in the Valley” by Jianhe Tribe of Puyume would be held in Naluwan Dance Troupe, Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Cultural Park, which would lead you to experience the magnificence and excitement of indigenous folk music and dance.
